Travel plans often shift unexpectedly or even intentionally – whether the travel dates are changing, additional travel days are added or one’s travel plans lead to additional trip costs, if you already purchased a TME Travel Insurance, you might be wondering: what happens now?
The good news is that most TME Travel Insurance plans are flexible enough to accommodate adjustments for adding new trip costs, modifying travel dates and adding additional travel days in just about every scenario.
- Updating Your Policy for New Trip Costs
Your travel insurance is designed to protect the total prepaid, non-refundable cost of your trip. If your itinerary changes and your new costs are higher (for example, upgraded flights, additional hotel nights, plus new tours or excursions), you should update your policy right away. This ensures your full investment is covered in case of cancellation or interruption.
- Adjusting Travel Dates
TME Travel Insurance allows you to modify your travel dates if your plans change in most scenarios. This is especially important because coverage only applies to the specific dates listed on your policy. Updating your dates ensures your coverage (like trip delay, interruption, or baggage protection) aligns with your actual travel window.
- The Value of Buying Early: Pre-Existing Condition Waiver
One of the advantages of purchasing TME Travel Insurance’s Preferred or Elite plans early is eligibility for a pre-existing condition waiver. This waiver can cover any new medical conditions you have incurred or been treated for in the last 60 days so long as long as you purchase within 14 days of your initial trip deposit. These medical conditions may otherwise be excluded should you have a loss related to the medical illness or injury that occurred, been treated or advised to be treated during this period. This exclusion does not apply to medical conditions controlled by prescription medication, that has not changed in the last 60 days.
If your trip has changed and you add the additional trip costs to your policy within 14 days from when those changes occur, you can maintain this important pre-existing waiver — which can be extremely helpful if health concerns arise before or during your travels related to recent medical conditions.
- Considering “Cancel For Any Reason” (CFAR) Coverage
Sometimes, life throws curveballs that don’t fit neatly into typical cancellation reasons (like illness, severe weather, or job loss). That’s where optional Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage comes in.
With CFAR, you can cancel for reasons not normally covered — maybe you simply don’t feel comfortable traveling anymore. Perhaps an unexpected wedding or family reunion is planned, and you can no longer make the trip. CFAR must be purchased within 14 days after your first trip payment and can reimburse you for up to 75% of your non–refundable insured trip costs. You can choose to add this optional coverage to the TME’s Elite Plan when getting your quote.
Final Thoughts
Travel insurance isn’t just about protecting your trip investment and your health — it’s also about preserving your flexibility when travel plans shift. If your trip changes after you’ve purchased coverage, reach out to TME Travel Insurance or the agent that assisted you. Although each plan does have limits on trip cost allowed per person ($10,000 Choice Plan | $50,000 Preferred Plan | $100,000 Elite Plan on a per person basis) and the maximum number of travel days allowed for each plan (30 days Choice Plan | 60 days Preferred Plan | 90 days Elite Plan), we can accommodate adjustments requested within the plan limits you purchased.
If you are waiting to purchase travel insurance until every detail of your trip is finalized, you shouldn’t. It’s important to understand that some benefits are time-sensitive and delaying a purchase can limit certain coverage options available to you. Besides, if your travel dates need adjustment or trip costs are added, you can make changes to your TME Travel Insurance plan to address those changes. Secure a quote today.
By keeping your policy aligned with your actual plans, you’ll ensure that your travel insurance continues to do what it’s meant to: protect your investment and give you confidence, no matter where your journey takes you.
