It can, but here’s why the type of policy and timing makes a difference:
Planning a trip when you have an existing medical condition? The good news is TME Travel Insurance Preferred and Elite Plans can waive the pre-existing condition exclusion when you purchase those plans within 14 days of your initial trip payment or deposit. More good news – TME Plans DO NOT have a pre-existing medical exclusion for emergency evacuation coverage.
While standard coverage in TME plans has a favorable 60-day look-back period for pre-existing conditions (many others will look back 90 days or even more), the waiver can provide added protection if a pre-existing medical condition affects your travel plans.
Generally, here is how it works: A medical condition may be considered pre-existing if, during the 60 days before your coverage takes effect, you or your traveling companion:
- Received medical treatment, an examination, or testing for a medical condition or injury.
- Were advised to receive testing, an examination, or treatment.
- Had a change in existing prescription medication, such as a dosage adjustment or a new medication, due to a worsening condition.
If you had to cancel your trip due to medical condition or had an illness or other medical issue recur while traveling that was pre-existing and falls within the 60-day look- back window, you may not be eligible for such a loss.
Back to the good news and why the timing of your policy purchase matters. TME’s Preferred and Elite plans eliminate the worry and provide a waiver to the pre-existing condition exclusion. Purchasing these plans within 14 days of the initial trip payment will qualify for the waiver. By purchasing soon after your initial trip deposit there’s the added benefit of avoiding a loss that may occur if you delay the purchase until after a new medical condition arises.
BONUS: If you secure the TME Travel Insurance Preferred or Elite Plan within 14 days of your initial trip payment, the optional CFAR (Cancel for Any Reason) & IFAR (Interruption for Any Reason) are also available, which provide the ultimate in flexibility for protecting your upcoming trip.
